If you are looking to take the 5 precepts, we suggest that you have been practicing meditation for at least 6 months. For 8 precepts, you should have experience with 5 precepts for at least one year.
*IF YOU WISH TO RENEW YOUR PRECEPTS, YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER FOR ALL THREE COURSES – however it is highly recommended that you do attend at least one class to get a better understanding of the process of this year’s ceremony*
Please register for one of the following categories after you have completed your class(es):
5 Precepts, 8 Precepts, Bodhisattva Vows, or Renewal on October 1st.
5 Precepts, 8 Precepts, Bodhisattva Vows, or Renewal on October 1st.
Dress code for precept takers: Men taking precepts should wear white, khaki, or blue pants, and a white shirt. Women may wear the same, or a white dress. Short pants, short skirts, and sleeveless shirts and blouses are not appropriate.
Dress code for Bodhisattva Vows: Men and women who take Bodhisattva vows should wear all white clothes, if possible. If you have a Khata (white silk scarf), please bring it. If you don’t, we have some available at the Temple. White is representative of the principles of purity but it is also considered the color of knowledge and longevity and symbolizes the purity of the Buddha’s Teaching and the liberation it brings.
If you are able, please bring some flowers for the Buddha.
For the ceremony the suggested donation is $75 which greatly helps with temple operations as well as the funding for the ceremony itself. We understand that times have been difficult for many people financially over the last year and have a variety of payment options that we can arrange. Please email the temple if you have any questions: office@bluelotustemple.org
*Please be sure to make your donation prior to attending the ceremony*
