SUMMARY:2022 Precepts Ceremony Registration
DESCRIPTION:Our annual precepts ceremony is approaching and will take place on October 1st at 10AM.\nBuddhist precepts are a code of ethics that one may choose to follow and commit to. There are three tiers of precepts that we perform each year:\n5 Precepts:\n1. I undertake the training rule to refrain from the destruction of life.\n2. I undertake the training rule to refrain from taking what is not given.\n3. I undertake the training rule to refrain from sexual misconduct.\n4. I undertake the training rule to refrain from false speech.\n5. I undertake the training rule of abstinence from the states of heedlessness and carelessness caused by liquors\, wines and other intoxicants.\nThe 8 Lifetime Precepts:\nThe Eight Lifetime Precepts:\n1. I undertake the training rule to refrain from the destruction of life.\n2. I undertake the training rule to refrain from taking what is not given.\n3. I undertake the training rule to refrain from sexual misconduct.\n4. I undertake the training rule to refrain from false speech.\n5. I undertake the training rule to refrain from malicious speech.\n6. I undertake the training rule to refrain from harsh speech.\n7. I undertake the training rule to refrain from useless speech\, or idle chatter.\n8. I undertake the training rule to abstain from wrong livelihood and from states of heedlessness caused by liquors\, wines and other intoxicants.\nThe Ten Perfections (Bodhisattva Vows):\n1. I undertake the quality of Generosity.\n2. I undertake the quality of Virtue.\n3. I undertake the quality of Renunciation.\n4. I undertake the quality of Wisdom.\n5. I undertake the quality of Energy.\n6. I undertake the quality of Patience.\n7. I undertake the quality of Truthfulness.\n8. I undertake the quality of Determination.\n9. I undertake the quality of Lovingkindness.\n10. I undertake the quality of Equanimity.\nIf you are looking to take the 5 precepts\, we suggest that you have been practicing meditation for at least 6 months. For 8 precepts\, you should have experience with 5 precepts for at least one year.\n*IF YOU WISH TO RENEW YOUR PRECEPTS\, YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER FOR ALL THREE COURSES – however it is highly recommended that you do attend at least one class to get a better understanding of the process of this year’s ceremony*\nPlease register for one of the following categories after you have completed your class(es):\n5 Precepts\, 8 Precepts\, Bodhisattva Vows\, or Renewal on October 1st.\nDress code for precept takers: Men taking precepts should wear white\, khaki\, or blue pants\, and a white shirt. Women may wear the same\, or a white dress. Short pants\, short skirts\, and sleeveless shirts and blouses are not appropriate.\nDress code for Bodhisattva Vows: Men and women who take Bodhisattva vows should wear all white clothes\, if possible. If you have a Khata (white silk scarf)\, please bring it. If you don’t\, we have some available at the Temple. White is representative of the principles of purity but it is also considered the color of knowledge and longevity and symbolizes the purity of the Buddha’s Teaching and the liberation it brings.\nIf you are able\, please bring some flowers for the Buddha.\nFor the ceremony the suggested donation is $75 which greatly helps with temple operations as well as the funding for the ceremony itself. We understand that times have been difficult for many people financially over the last year and have a variety of payment options that we can arrange. Please email the temple if you have any questions: office@bluelotustemple.org\n*Please be sure to make your donation prior to attending the ceremony*
